The Beauty of Natural Indigo, in an Everyday T-Shirt
Natural indigo offers remarkable shades of blue—rich in depth, with subtle variations that give each piece its own character. Combined with substantial yet airy cotton fabric and a relaxed, carefully considered silhouette, this T-shirt brings together the beauty of traditional Japanese indigo dyeing and the comfort of a well-made everyday essential.
Made from 10/1 slub yarn, the vintage-style jersey fabric has a distinctive, naturally uneven texture. The generous width and slightly shorter length create a balanced fit that works equally well on its own or layered under a shirt or jacket.
Another pleasure of natural indigo is how its color evolves with wear and washing. The blue gradually softens, developing a lived-in appearance that reflects the way each person wears and cares for their T-shirt.
Based in Nara, Japan, INDIGO CLASSIC is involved in the process from cultivating indigo plants and producing sukumo (fermented indigo leaves) to dyeing the fabric. During our visit, we learned how the dyers carefully judge the changing condition of the indigo vat through their senses, even feeling the dye by hand. This close attention to a living, ever-changing process is part of what makes natural indigo dyeing so remarkable.

How to Measure: Product measurements are taken with the garment laid flat. Measurements may vary slightly depending on the garment and fabric characteristics.
Body Length: Measure from the center back of the neckline straight down to the bottom hem.
Chest Width: Measure straight across from armpit to armpit.
Shoulder Width: Measure straight across from one shoulder seam to the other.
Sleeve Length: Measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve.
Please note: These are measurements of the garment, not body measurements. For the best fit, we recommend comparing these measurements with a similar T-shirt you already own.
